I made this bowl in my kiln using special handmade glass from Pennsylvania, USA. It is semi-opaque white and red glass, which means the bright red colour can be seen through the white layer. It is a beautiful and unusual piece, definitely a one-off, which has many distinct features. The contrast of the deep red against the stark white glass is striking, and can be seen both inside the bowl and on the bottom. I tried to show this in the photographs. When the red shows through layer of white glass it produces a veiled colour inside the bowl. There are also creases and bumps which were formed when the glass was originally handmade. When the bowl slumped into the mould, it did so unevenly, so one side of the bowl is 7 cm high while the opposite side is 8 cm. This feature adds to its unique quality in my mind. I will be sorry to part with this piece as it is one of my favourites.
The bowl is 23 cm in diameter and 7-8 cm in height.
It weighs 985 gm.
